Boys & Girls Club of Dayton Will Have Income-Based, Sliding-Scale Fees
The Boys & Girls Club of Dayton will have membership fees based on income and family size for their after school programs. Their goal is to not turn anyone away, and the sliding-scale fees will help accomplish this.
DAYTON, OH, February 01, 2012 /United States PR News/ -- The Boys & Girls Club of Dayton announced that at the start of 2012 the agency moved to sliding scale membership fees based on income and family size for its afterschool program. In order to qualify for sliding-scale membership fees, people must present proper documentation - the previous month's pay stubs, certified documentation from an employer or county agency, or their most recent W2 forms.
According to Natasha Spears, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton, it is expected that anywhere from 15 to 25 percent of the Club's membership will meet the requirements needed to pay less than the full membership fee.
"Income-based membership fee scales are working at other youth serving and recreation facilities across the country, noted Spears. We felt we want to be as inclusive as possible. Our goal is not to turn anyone away. That is a critical element of who we are."
Standard monthly membership for the after school program at the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton is $30, considerably lower than the average cost for the state of Ohio, which was $397 in 2011.
Established in 1930, the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton (BGCD) provides daily afterschool and all day summer programs to children ages 5 to 18, getting them off the streets during the most dangerous time of the day, between 2:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Each year BGCD provides approximately 600 Montgomery County youth with a safe and positive place to learn and grow. At the Boys & Girls Club, children can spend their non-school hours surrounded by caring adults and engaged in enriching, age appropriate youth development activities. Club members have access to an array of programs in the core areas of Academic Success, Civic & Social Engagement, and Healthy Lifestyles. Membership fees are low and affordable and afterschool participation includes a nutritious meal served daily. BGCD is part of the national federation of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which includes some 4,000 Club locations in the 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and U.S. military bases worldwide serving 4.2 million youth annually.
