Alan West Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Education

Mr. West is dedicated to providing young people with the STEM opportunities they need to succeed

    LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, January 12, 2012 /United States PR News/ -- Alan West, Chief Executive Officer of Exscitec Limited and Director of the Reach Out Lab at Imperial College London, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.

With 11 years of experience as the CEO of Exscitec Limited, Mr. West leads a team of scientists and engineers dedicated to encouraging more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue career opportunities in STEM subjects. Mr. West is also a qualified teacher of chemistry and physics and prior to establishing Exscitec was the national director of the CREST Awards Program. He established Exscitec Limited in 2000, and early successes of the company include it being a founding consortium member of the Gifted and Talented GATEA program for London. In November 2011, Mr. West will be speaking to the European Council for International Schools in Lisbon, Portugal. Mr. West is also the director of the Reach Out Lab at Imperial College London. The Reach Out Lab is a university space dedicated to providing laboratory experiences for students from the pre-university school sector, working in particular with students from disadvantaged backgrounds. He has undertaken numerous public speaking engagements regarding problem-solving approaches to teaching and learning in scientific fields. He also has had articles published, as well as chapters in books on this teaching and learning approach. He became involved in his profession because it was his passion and desire to support unrepresented groups of students and to help them achieve their ambitions by providing them with the opportunity to succeed.

Mr. West earned a Master of Science in chemical crystallography, having received teaching credentials in chemistry and physics in 1977, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of London in 1975. On October 18, 2011, he met Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, and received the MBE -Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours List. In years to come, Mr. West hopes to move forward on a personal and professional basis.
