Kathleen Barnes Named a Professional of the Year in Retail Management

Kathleen Barnes was recently selected to be featured in Pro-Files Magazine

VICTORIA, BC, CANADA, January 11, 2012 /United States PR News/ -- Kathleen Barnes, President of Penny Farthing Antiques, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Retail Management. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

A former senior communications consultant, Ms. Barnes ventured into the field of retail management upon her retirement. Along with her husband, a retired submarine commander, she began researching auction information and learning about antiques. Together, they established Penny Farthing Antiques and Collectibles, which quickly established a reputation as a trusted antiques retailer. Ms. Barnes functions as president of the business and specializes in antiques and jewelry. Her role entails attending various auctions, making private house calls, and doing seven or eight antique shows per year on Vancouver Island and the Mainland.

In addition to overseeing all operations of her business, Ms. Barnes serves as Senator for Convocation for the University of Victoria. She is a former president and vice president of the school's alumni association. Ms. Barnes is also an avid writer of screenplays, teleplays and memoirs. She aspires to be published in the near future and pick up a television series with a Canadian production company. In light of her numerous accomplishments, Ms. Barnes was recently selected to be featured in Pro-Files Magazine. She attributes her success to being extremely interested in what she does and finding her work exciting on a day-to-day basis.

Ms. Barnes is pursuing a master's degree in professional communications at Royal Roads University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in writing and English from the University of Victoria in 1998. When not working, Ms. Barnes enjoys traveling in Europe and the South Pacific.
